Frequently Asked Questions

What is email deliverability?

Email deliverability is the ability to get your emails into recipients' inboxes rather than being blocked or filtered into spam. It depends on your domain's authentication records (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), your sending server's reputation, and the content of your emails.

What is SPF, DKIM, and DMARC?

SPF (Sender Policy Framework) is a DNS record that authorises which mail servers are allowed to send email on behalf of your domain. DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) adds a cryptographic signature to each email so receivers can verify it hasn't been tampered with. DMARC builds on both — it tells receiving servers what to do (quarantine or reject) when an email fails SPF or DKIM checks, and lets you receive reports about authentication failures.

Why are my emails going to spam?

Common causes include: missing or broken SPF/DKIM/DMARC records, sending from an IP that appears on a blacklist, a high SpamAssassin score due to content issues (spammy phrases, too many images, broken links), no reverse DNS (PTR) record for your sending IP, or a poor sender reputation from high bounce or complaint rates.

How do I check if my domain is blacklisted?

Send a test email via FixMyEmail — we automatically check your sending IP against 20+ DNS-based blacklists (DNSBLs) including Spamhaus, Barracuda, SORBS, and more. If your IP is listed on any of them, we'll tell you exactly which ones and why your emails may be blocked.

What is a good email spam score?

SpamAssassin scores each email on a point scale — lower is better. A score below 3.0 is generally considered safe and will pass most mail servers. Scores between 3 and 5 may be flagged by some providers, and scores above 5.0 are often rejected or sent directly to spam. FixMyEmail shows you the exact score and which rules triggered.
